I grew up in the remote farming area of the Waitōtara Valley, at the end of the longest dead-end road in New Zealand. The isolation certainly had its challenges however, I do appreciate my earliest teacher as being the bush and my rural surroundings, with vivid memories of the light and shadows at play in a beautiful and peaceful natural environment.
Over the last 30 years I have experimented in most mediums – Watercolors, Acrylics and Pastels but after our move to Wanaka I discovered that using oil paints and a palette knife on large canvases helped me to capture the dramatic lighting and sculptured lines of the unique Central Otago Landscape.
Living in Wanaka gives me amazing access to some great plein air painting. I can take a short drive in any direction and be amongst some breathtaking views. I have spent most of my life creating in some form and I am very grateful to have the opportunity to pursue my passion for painting.
I’ve exhibited internationally and many of my large landscapes have found homes overseas as a reminder of this beautiful part of this world, although it can be hard to part with a painting it is a privilege to think someone else will be enjoying what I have created. Large canvas artworks are professionally packaged by Pack & Send in Queenstown. All shipped artwork is fully insured locally and Internationally. If there are any issues please let me know within 7 days of the artwork’s arrival.
